The article analyzes some methods of translation of the Spanish-language Baroque text into the phenomenon of “The Fable of Polyphemus and Galatea” by L. de Gongora y Argote. The aesthetic and linguistic features of the author's poetics, as well as the fundamental features of the “dark style” are characterized. Further, two polar strategies for translating a baroque text are distinguished: simplification (modernization) and complication (archaization). Grushko's translation corresponding to the second strategy is analyzed. As a result of the comparison of the selected octaves by P. Grushko with our version, it is concluded that the “median” method of translation may be a legitimate appeal, since it allows you to convey a number of linguistic features of the baroque text and the natural perception of the text, which means preservation of the reader's interest.
