The purpose of this paper is to assess the applicability of the hydrological model "Hydrograph" for calculating the maximum water flow in the basins of small mountain rivers of the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus, for example, Tuapse and comparison of the results with the results of calculations using standard methods. Within the framework of this work the following tasks were solved: collection and systematization of the data of the pluviographs on two meteorological stations (Gorny, Tuapse), parametrization of the Hydrograph model, calculation of the runoff at the daily and hourly intervals (for outstanding floods in 1991 and 2005), the calculation of the maximum characteristics by means of SP 33-101-2003. As a result, the results of different methods for calculating the maximum characteristics of river flow in the highlands of the North-Western Caucasus were compared and conclusions were drawn on the possibility of using the model to quantify processes that may not be monitored for a number of reasons and also to verify incorrect data.
