The article highlights the importance of identification by economists themselves as a part of a social group and discusses ways to increase this awareness, which will help to increase their professional level, the consistency of their actions at the supranational level. The article analyzes one of the ways to increase this awareness on the basis of studying the competencies of economists in the framework of foreign language training. The article uses five essential professional competencies common to all economists at various levels of education in accordance with the project organised by the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) with the participation of economists. The proposed activities for teaching economics students within the framework of foreign language training contributed to the development of students' understanding of the goals of education in Economics, increased their motivation for improving professional skills and awareness of belonging to a particular social group.
