The article is devoted to the problem of polysemy, contextual compatibility, and
peculiarities of the use of the verb сидеть – сесть – садиться. Due to a wide range of
meanings and the variety of communicative situations, this lexical and grammatical
group of verbs is one of the most difficult for foreign students who learn Russian. Their meanings are often complicated by additional metaphorical connotations, figurative meanings and the phraseological nature of certain expressions, depending on the context, and in some cases, by the “conceptuality” of their meanings in the Russian language and culture. Correct understanding and usage of these verbs by foreign students largely affects the success of communication, and therefore requires a special educational and methodological approach.
