This article examines the potential of the journal «Foreign Military Review» as a linguistic and didactic resource for teaching foreign specialists at a military university. The description of the structure of the journal, its general content orientation is given: the scientific character, authenticity and professional specificity of its articles are emphasized. The authors of the article justify that the formation of professional competence among servicemen during the Russian language lessons is impossible withoutinvolving the texts of «live» sources covering military topics of an informational, research and discussion nature. Authentic materials could be useful for students of differentlevelsof Russianlanguageproficiency
