Comparison of the best anti-war piece of English Romanticism, Robert Southey’s ballad «The Battle of Blenheim» (1798), with its Russian translations of the XIX (A. Plescheev, 1871) and XX-th (A. Shteinberg, 1975) centuries allows to reveal the main problem of the poem - the necessity and the process of overcoming traumatic experience of war, illustrating its variations conditioned by the situation of each translator, his time, and his country.
