The article deals with the analysis of evaluation interpretation of visual art of socialist realism in Anglophone art discourse. The work aims at defining the character of evaluation and revealing cognitive dominants influencing evaluation interpretation processes and predetermining the formation of new knowledge of socialist realism art. Semantic, contextual and cognitive language analysis revealed the bipolarity of evaluation interpretation of socialist realist paintings as a result of the opposition of generally adopted stereotypical negative evaluation prevailing in the Western society to the art critics' positive evaluation discovered in the art texts under analysis. The latter depends on social, political and national context of socialist realism in Russia and on the necessity of thorough studies of this sphere of art with regard to its diversity. The undertaken investigation shows the formation in Anglophone art discourse of such new cognitive dominants as transformational, value and methodological, which considerably determine modern scientific knowledge of art. The results of the research may be used in the works on discourse analysis, in axiological, pragmatic and cognitive investigations for the benefit of language and culture specialists as well as for art critics.
