The aim of this research is to explore the transfer of such graphical written communication tools as hashtags and punctuation marks into oral speech. This phenomenon is studied as a part of electronic discourse and is illustrated in this study by English examples from various sources. The author identifies the most typical pragmatic functions of their occurrence in speech and suggests several reasons for their use in oral communication.
