The article provides the linguoculturological analysis of the Ukrainian paroemiological units with the component-zoonym “dog” by the material of I. Franko’s collection “Galician-Russian Folk Bywords”. Being metaphorically re-interpreted, this zoonym can be used to characterize a human being (his behaviour, emotions, physical condition) or typical situations a human being faces. The analysis of paroemias with the component-zoonym “dog” indicated the following: regardless of the animal’s positive qualities (fidelity and reliability), the dog image is associated with negative emotional-evaluative characteristics of a man in the native Ukrainian speakers’ consciousness.
