The article examines the educational process at St. Petersburg / Petrograd University in 1900-1904 and 1914-1918 (the first period is the turning point for the Faculty of Oriental Languages, and the second one was a crucial time for the whole country). In addition, it presents the teaching staff in detail and gives a comparative analysis of educational programs based on archival materials and preserved Reviews for the first half of the XX century.
