When analyzing the trilogy about musketeers, researchers traditionally classify such characters as musketeers and Nicolas Fouquet as positive heroes, and such negative characters as Richelieu, Colbert, Mazarini, Milady are considered the embodiment of absolute evil. However, with a more careful reading, it turns out that everything is not pellucid. Even the image of Milady is not so negative as it seems at first glance. As for the other heroes, their assessment sometimes changes dramatically, and from the positive they become negative and vice versa. The author avoids one-dimensionality in the depiction of a “moral portrait”, avoids simplification in the psychological motivation of behaviour. In the Dumas’ trilogy, there is “dynamics” from the initial assessment to the subsequent reevaluation, which fundamentally changes the idea of the characters, making them more versatile, multifaceted, considered in a temporary aspect and from different points of view.
