The concept “background knowledge” of broad and narrow meanings is considered in the article. It gives the classification of background knowledge. Because of special figurative type of thinking of students from China the expediency of inclusion in process of training of a large number of video and audiomaterials at introduction and fixing of background knowl edge from the course “Regional geography” is described as optimum process of representation of knowledge and in general cognitive activity takes place only in combination of verbal and nonverbal languages
