During the period of the spread of Buddhism in China, Confucianism acted as an ideological opponent of the new teaching, due to the inconsistency of Buddhism with Confucian ideas. Disputes about the right of existence of Buddhism in the Middle Kingdom in particular concerned the question of the existence of the principle of filial piety in its ideas. Due to external pressure, in interaction with traditional teachings, Buddhism has formed its own interpretation of filial piety. This article is an attempt to show how the principle of filial piety is interpreted in Chinese Buddhism by the example of the " Sutra of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha's Fundamental Vows".
