This article touches upon the issue of constructing the image of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich in the Kiev spiritual society. One of the ways to visualize, broadcast the image of the Russian monarch and express loyalty to him was his image on book engravings that came out of the printing house of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The new ruler was actively inserted into the Kiev-oriented model where he acted as a descendant of the holy prince Vladimir. The continuity of the old and the new was built through the actualization of the Old Rus past — old Kiev and the Rurikovites with the new Romanov tsarist dynasty and Moscow. At the same time, the Kiev-oriented identity continued to exist and was expressed in visual sources — Kiev engravings.
