We present a study of the hindsight effect as a cognitive bias, which manifests in a tendency to shift one's answers in line with feedback given about outcomes. Previously the hypothesis was asserted that insight problems should produce a stronger hindsight bias, because generation or presentation of their solutions are often accompanied with an Aha! experience, high processing fluency and obviousness. Nevertheless, this hypothesis was proven only within a hypothetical design, where participants were asked to evaluate their chances of solving the problem before they knew the outcome. Here, for the first time, we apply a memory design using remote associate tasks. In the experiment's first stage, participants intuitively estimated the solvability of remote associate tasks (half of tasks had a solution, others did not). In the second stage, half of the participants were presented with outcomes (correct answers), and afterwards all participants had to go through the first procedure again, trying to remember their previous estimations. The results demonstrated that presentation of the outcome provoked a shift in repeated estimations in line with given feedback, even when participants admitted that they remembered their first estimation. This result proves our hypothesis and underlines the mnemonic nature of the observed bias.
