The article compares two socio-political discussions of E. Snowden’s case from the years 2013 and 2016 in terms of global communicative strategies used by the opponent groups of commenters and the elements of linguistic alignment within each group. It is shown that though overall patterns remain quite stable, there are also new developments appearing as a reaction to what is said by the opponents as well as to general trends in the current American socio-political discourse.
