It is devoted to the issues of correlation of the language policy of the European Union with the national language policies of the EU Member States. It is emphasized that, despite the proclaimed multilingualism, the European Union forms a special European identity by combating national identities, and the actual language of the EU’s work is English. The influence of the EU policy on the situation within France in the field of law and higher education is revealed. It analyzes the fact of France’s adoption of the Fiorazo law, which permits teaching in English in the country’s universities and signifies a rejection of the policy of protecting national identity.
