The paper deals with the main types of translational correspondences of English connotative lexemes in Chekhov’s plays. Connotative lexemes include among others occasional and slang words widely discussed in specialist literature. Examples of such words include such Russian lexemes as mamochka, tsypochka, golubushka, kurinaya slepota (as addressing formulas of an elderly male estate owner to the younger male one), rassiropit’sja, razlimonit’sja as
self-description of one’s behavior towards a woman and many others. English translation variants of corresponding constructions involving such nominal and verbal lexemes with emotional meaning is an interesting domain of the theory and practice of Russian-English literary translation.
