Luis de Gongora's sonnet oeuvre is far from significant: only 167 pieces mainly circulated in the manuscripts from the beginning of the seventeenth century were recognized and attributed. However, this small corpus of texts is still barely considered by literary scholars. As exemplified in the analysis of the sonnet "A una rosa", this article attempts to distinguish the main features of Gongora's "dark" style. Further, we studied how blank spots affect the aesthetic perception of the text by the implied reader. In the elaboration of the analysis, we found that complex syntax, the specific organization of mimetic levels and overcoming the merciless running of time motif (representative of the Baroque) are the source of the catharsis, born by harmonizing two opposing parties - life and death.
