The article examines the problems of cubism reception in Soviet art criticism and theory of art. The author focuses on interpretting sociological and political-philosophical aspects of cubism in Soviet historiography, analyzes the works of an outstanding Russian art critic, representative of “vulgar sociology” Nina Viktorovna Yavorskaya (1902-1992) and the theoretical work on cubism of a domestic Marxist philosopher Mikhail Aleksandrovich Lifshitz (1905-1983) and his wife, a famous art critic Lidia Yakovlevna Reinhardt (1909-1994).
