G. Chebanov (1898–1966) is known as the author of a single article (1947) on the distribution of words in a text according to the number of syllables, which is known as the Chebanov–Fucks, Fucks–Gachechiladze, Chebanov–Fucks–Gachechiladze, etc. distribution. This is due to the fact that, despite his broad academic interests, Chebanov’s main focus was on otolaryngology, which he pursued as a professor at the Military Medical Academy. However, since the recently discovered documents (including those related to other questions of linguistic statistics) show that Chebanov studied phonetics from L. V. Shcherba and quantum statistics from Yu. A. Krutkov, the 1947 article presented by A. N. Kolmogorov seems quite natural. At the same time, Chebanov’s work is of exclusively historical interest for mathematics and linguistics. From the linguistic point of view, a better representation of phonetic word distribution by the number of syllables in spontaneous speech is completely different and is not approximated by any known distribution.
