The taxonomic composition of nannofossils from the Lower Eocene sequence taken from the Balta-Chokrak gorge in the south-western part of the Crimea allows us to identify the calcareous nannoplankton zones of the Paleogene Standard scale. Some intrazonal units (of E. Sterbaut's scale) within zones NP11 and NP12 were recognized at the Crimea for the first time. Th e facial characteristics of the Lower Eocene carbonate deposits represent nummulitic bank of Early Eocene up to Middle Eocene age.
