The article highlights the results of a study, which focuses on the hybrid word-formation in the language of modern German mass-media. The object of the research are loaned verbs which have penetrated into German from other languages, in particular from English in the course of the last 20 years. The authors discuss verb prefixing following the template endogenous prefix/semi-prefix + exogenous word-stem/exogenous verb. The majority of loaned verbs are capable of adding German-based prefixes and semi-prefixes, thus opening wide opportunities of hybrid word-formation. Some German prefixes fulfill unusual functions and build a solid base for the existence of the endogenous verb stems as independent words. The participation of exogenous verbs and verb stems in hybrid word-formation supports the hypothesis about inhomogeneous word-building and word-formation system in the modern German and the development of a half-autonomous hybrid word-formation.
