The article is devoted to studying the place and meaning of the revolution in the life and works of outstanding Russian American historian George Vernadsky. The author of the article some time ago wrote about the «phenomenon of Vernadsky». Now he considers it possible to speak of a kind of the «phenomenon in phenomenon». The matter is that by its origin, upbringing and education Vernadsky was «doomed»to participate in the revolution. And he accepted it, and would take even more active, if he had not enthusiasm for historical science. The most active he acted in the «first Russian revolution» of 1905- 1907, less active in February 1917. His activity was interesting and diversity. He also took part in the civil war, then began his Expatriation. The revolution not only shaped many of the views of the historian, she continued to live in his consciousness as a phenomenon of Russian history, conducting a kind of underlying work. That is why, despite his passion for ancient history, Vernadsky made a signifi cant contribution to the study of revolution. If you try to briefl y define the main direction of research of thought of the historian, then, is, first, the desire to understand the causes of the revolution, and, secondly, to find a place “post-revolutionary” era in the history of Russia and the world. It seems to me that understanding the cause, he found a middle ground between «optimists» and «pessimists». Vernadsky included into the scheme also the «revolution from above» and became the first who could make the «working» model of the Russian revolution.
