The relations and contradictions in the description of the interests of regional elites are analyzed. The corpus of research sources was made up of archival documents, the documents of the foundation (F.100) of the Russian State Institute of Scientific Research and Entrepreneurship; memoirs; oral history data obtained during interviews. The main types of power interests, including the establishment of personal informal contacts, were analyzed and systematized. The study revealed the structure of the interests of regional authorities in the late USSR, which included 2 interconnected blocks - declared and hidden interests.
