The report presents the main results of the study of the dynamics of the transformation of public opinion under the influence of dispersal of cascades of information in social networks. Public opinion in the framework of this study was understood as a set of value judgments on topical social and political problems, which manifests itself in a verbalized form within the framework of the functioning of online discourse in social media. The main hypothesis that was tested during the study was that the degree of activity of discussing the news agenda in social networks is the main marker that can determine which topics (and the pole of opinions as a reaction to them) will become a vector for the movement of social groups at the macro level (a region). The study was conducted with a focus on St. Petersburg, the social network VKontakte (public posts) and the Telegram messenger (public chats) were investigated
