The article is dedicated to comparison and collation of the Caucasian and Saint Petersburg texts of the Russian literature. During the investigation of different historic and literary material the statement that the so called “Saint Petersburg narration” is linked with the “Caucasian narration” with complex antinomic relations is confirmed. If Saint Petersburg is represented as the infernal locus, “the center of evil and crime” (V. Toporov) where characters undergo the examination being benighted, the Caucasus is depicted as the sacred space where “the presence of God can be felt, experienced, lived through” (V. Shulzhenko). The comparison of mindset of characters in “Saint Petersburg” and “Caucasian” narratives allows finding out a stark difference. Инфернальный Петербург и сакрально-романтический Кавказ в художественном мире русской литературы. In the “Saint Petersburg narrative” a person cannot overcome the crisis of identity that leads to dissociation while the main characters of “Caucasian narrative” are defined with straightforwardness and personal integrity.
