The article shows the intermediate results of an empirical sociological study, which is devoted to the study of the values of Russians and Chinese regarding the qualities of a person. We consider the scientific basis for the study of values in the practice of world sociology, dignity and limitation of values as an object of sociological research. The conclusion is made about the prospects of applying the network approach to value research. The network value models obtained as a result of a survey among respondents of the Russian Federation and China are shown. Then the value potentials of the networks are compared according to the most important parameters. Presents some insights on networks of values of the Russians and the Chinese. First of all, this applies to those characteristics that reveal the weight parameters of values and the degree of their inclusion in the overall network of values. The article shows the trends-the coincidence of values between Russian and Chinese respondents, as well as differences in ideas about the valuable qualities of the individual in modern Russia and China.
