The article discusses the issues of preserving historical memory of nation in terms of numismatic tradition, existing in Russia since 1830-ies. Themes, trends and characteristics of the release process both single coins and their series dedicated to certain historical dates related to significant events of the Great Patriotic War are analyzed. The value of numismatics as means of Patriotic education of the younger generation is determined.
