The paper addresses the problem of Russian borrowings from Polish in the Petrine epoch, specifically, proverbs and phraseological units which came into the Russian language both via oral transmission (and subsequent recording in the works of contemporary writers) and via translated works of fiction, since at that time Polish literature continued serving as a bridge between Russia and the West.
