The functional approach sees a language as a system in which everything is interconnected, the presence of all its elements is due to the functions they perform. Different Turkic languages have much in common in their structure. In all Turkic languages there are a large number of such verbal forms, the originality of which can not always be adequately interpreted due to the lack of similar forms in European languages. Currently, for example, in the Turkish language there are four categories of verb-nominal forms: 1) participles, 2) masdars (names of actions), 3) hybrid forms that perform both an adjectival and a substantive function, and 4) adverbial participles. With one or another approximation, similar categories can be found in other Turkic languages. The present study is devoted to revealing functional essence of listed Turkic grammatical forms.
