The article investigates the problem of correlation between author’s individuality and epistolary etiquette which was in use in Late Antiquity and Early Byzantium. This article is historiographical survey and thereby has a prefatory character for this subject. The problem of author’s individuality in Early Byzantium epistolography is regarded on the example of Synesius’ Letters.
