In chronic experiments in rats, the effect on the ECoG of a substance of α-NETA, simulating the trace amines effect, related to normal monoamines, was investigated. The drug caused a decrease in the parameters of gamma-rhythm in comparison with the background and with control injections of saline. Perhaps α-NETA increases dopamine transmission, which disrupts glutamate transfer to GABA-interneurons. This leads to dysfunction of gamma-waves and phase signaling, characteristic of schizophrenia.
