The purpose of this work is to develop a system for controling and assessing intercultural competence in teaching reading. Objects of control have been determined: knowledge of culturally specific vocabulary, the ability to detect Russian cultural phenomena in the text, to compare them with the phenomena of native culture, and to interpret their similarities and differences, drawing conclusions about the traditions of two peoples, their values, and national mentality. Assessment criteria are determined, approximate control tasks and assessment scales are described. Research material is the following: texts for children's reading, including fairy tales. Research methods: scientific literature analysis, modeling and proving of the control task system.
