Accumulation of aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soils and soil-like bodies is a satellite of anthropogenic influence on ecosystems all over the world. This study presents the results of the determination of possible sources and genesis of PAHs previously detected in soil-like bodies (cryoconites) of the Elbrus glaciers and soils of the Central Caucasus. Using calculations of isomeric ratios of various polyarenes, it was revealed that PAHs accumulated in soil-like bodies and soils under anthropogenic pressure are predominantly of pyrogenic origin.
