The article focuses on the formation of students' communicative and socio-cultural competence within the course of text interpretation at teacher-training universities. The pedagogic value of text analysis as well as its benefits in terms of improvement of language knowledge, development of critical thinking skills, and ability to study texts independently through guiding learners and encouraging them to be active participants and explorers capable of carrying out research work is revealed.
