The article considers some dynamic processes taking place in the system of similes of the modern Russian language: the activation of the use of similes in sports discourse, the emergence of new units, changes in the composition of comparison standards and causes to change, the modification of axiological assessment. The study was conducted on the extensive language material of the Russian National Corpus and on the survey data of Russian native speakers.
