The phenomenon of "fake news" is considered, which is a product of the digital society in the information age. This product can be qualified as a qualitatively defined simulacrum of virtual space. It is concluded that the construction of communicative units of virtual space in the form of fakes (messages that are knowingly false or distorting the true state of things) has become widespread in modern conditions. These messages can have a cardinal impact on real socio-economic processes and on the political and legal sphere of entire countries worldwide. The problem of confidence to "fake news" is investigated and the need for interdisciplinary research on this topic is formulated.
