The article deals with a problem of valuation and methods of its expression in the amateur language criticism in terms of the media discussion about gender correctness in the German language. The goal of the study is to consider the methods of evaluative expressions: expression of emotional valuation and expression of evaluative structure of this part of media discourse. The scholarly relevance of the research rests on the application of discourse linguistic approach, analysis of the language stuff from the perspective of linguistic pragmatics and interactional sociolinguistics with regard for communicative situation. The materials are borrowed from online-media in German language of the period from 2018 to 2023. The main research method is multifaceted discourse analysis which considers the trans-textual situation, intra-textual features and positions of the actors, there were also used the continuous sampling method and the method of contextual analysis. The study is based on the achievements of the modern Russian scientists about evaluative semantics. The study demonstrates that this part of media discourse is characterized by inherent dialogism that is grounded on communicative goals of the authors of critical expressions. The negative valuation of meaning of the opponents is expressed by means of modality of indirect speech and inexact and fictional citations that have an effect of distancing. Analysis of the lexical emotive means demonstrate that by diversity of semantical types of valuation ethical and moral valuation are most important for all participants of discussion. Expression of the ethical and moral valuation demonstrate the tendency to use specific forms what indicates the difference of in the linguistic picture of the world and the difference in realization of persuasive function. The study continues the research of evaluative semantics and contributes to the development of the modern scientific language criticism.
