Several benthic foraminifera species were collected in January 2016 and June 2016 from Svalbard fjords and studied with TEM and confocal microscopy. Despite the presumed lack of food during the winter foraminifera showed signs of active feeding and demonstrated well-developed metabolic apparatus hence disproving the initial idea of their transition to the resting stages during winter.
