The review of the educational and methodological manual of T. Goncharova «The history of French colonialism: actuel problems of study» is devoted to the analyze of its two published parts - Part I. «History of the Colonial Empires of France» (Sant- Petersburg, 2013) and Part II. «The discovery of new worlds and the formation of the image of «another» (16-17th centuries)» (Saint-Petersburg, 2016). The first part sets out the main historical facts relevant to the more than 400-years history of the formation, functioning and desintegration of the First and then the Second Colonial Empires of France. In the second part, the object of the study are the stories of travelers and the first colonists, as well as the state ideology in the sphere of colonization and attempts to its theoretical comprehension by philosophers. The reviewer comes to the conclusion that in the process of working with diverse historical sources and research literature T. Goncharova succeded in forming and communicating of her own concept of the phenomenon of French colonialism, that allows filling obvious gaps in modern Russian historiography on this topic.
