This article explores the main features of France’s Indo-Pacific policy under the administration of Emmanuel Macron. First of all, we discuss its doctrinal dimension, especially the concept of “Indo-Pacific axis” announced in 2018. Then, we analyze the strengths and weaknesses of French positioning in the region such as, respectively, power projection capabilities or long-dated territorial disputes. The conclusion is that for the next several years France is likely to continue its proactive course seeking to play an increasingly important role in Indo-Pacific.
