This article is devoted to the study of social intelligence features in children with mental retardation, namely the study of the emotional-need component. As a result of the study, the specificity of the emotional-demanding component is described, which consists in the instability of relations, the unmet need for communication and psychological intimacy with a friend, negative experiences, frustration with friendship, a decrease or even the absence of an emotional need for a friend.
