The article describes the life of the eminent German historian of Ancient History Edward Meyer (1855-1930). The history of his becoming a scientist and the most important stages of his scientific career are described. The article tells about the study of Edward Meyer at the Johanneum Gymnasium in Hamburg, at the universities, describes his work as a professor at the universities in Breslau, Halle, Berlin. Research visits of scientist in the United States to give lectures at universities of the country are also characterized.
