This article is devoted to the prose of T.G. Shevchenko written in Russian, that was not touched upon in either Ukrainian or Russian studies, in particular his «Diary», which in fact is a real work of art written in Russian in 1857-1858. The subject of analysis is the functioning and usage of European conceptual symbols by the author, dating back to ancient mythology and containing an associative meaning for modern Western culture.
