The article focuses on structures “X is (not) about Y”, that is a word model of values created by
the language speakers. Based on the modern English fi ction where the model is used quite often,
it reveals the essence of values, mostly social and moral. Normally, the model is used in confl ict,
dramatic situations, reveals reasons and causes of the events, and aims to alter an addressee’s
value system. The analysis has proved that the values are the highest principles or standards of
behavior and starting points when a person sets his/her heart on doing something. The model
can be regarded as distinctive attribute of dialogues, so-called “conventional signals” with constant
forms and functions, which are easy to predict in certain constructions.
