The article presents the results of expert interviews conducted within the framework of the research project “Theoretical and pedagogical schools of journalism in Russia”. The experts identified the mandatory components of the phenomenon and assessed their importance in the educational practice in Russia. Today, the basic values of theoretical and educational schools of journalism come into conflict with the current needs of the media market and new technological trends.
