In this study subjects solved similar types of problems. There were three types of conditions where the primes were: an ordinary figure (cube), an ambiguous figure (Necker cube) or an "impossible" figure (Escher cube). It was assumed that an ambiguous figure and an "impossible" figure, being perceived as more complex than an ordinary figure, could influence the solution of subsequent tasks. The results of the experiment confirmed this assumption: the response time and the number of errors in the series with an ordinary cube as the priming task were shorter\fewer than with a Necker cube or an Escher cube as priming. The explanation we used for the phenomenon is the following: the unconscious meaning of the stimulus (the second meaning in an ambiguous figure, or no meaning in an “impossible” figure) leads to the emotional state\status, which designates that the problem is not solved. This status of an “unsolved problem” is accompanied by a negative emotional signal. This negative signal effects the tasks that appear after this priming stimulus.
