The study is conducted within the framework of functional semantics and theory of speech communication. The paper aims to identify the role of toponyms in the English and Russian evaluative statements. Originality of the research lies in the fact that the emphasis is made on the functional-semantic aspect of evaluative statements with toponyms. Two groups of statements are identified according to the criterion of direct or mediated participation of toponyms in the evaluative situation. Taking into account interrelation of the type of predicate and parameters of evaluation, each group is subdivided into three subgroups.
