At this stage in the development of modern society, where the main direction has long been the globalization of the political, economic and sociocultural space, the problem of the interaction of cultures and the issue of tolerant relations in society are acute. The modern society of globalization seeks to develop a dialogue of cultures, to respect cultural diversity, tolerance and cooperation in an atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding, which, in turn, should ensure international security and peaceful coexistence. Along with this, the destructive manifestations of relationships in society do not disappear, but undergo a series of changes, forming new forms of violence, creating conditions for conflict and complicating the development of tolerance, respect and understanding by different cultures of each other. The article discusses such phenomena of sociocultural reality as violence and conflict, states that, despite the difference between these two concepts, conflict and violence are closely interrelated. Particular attention is paid to the influence of the cultural factor on the development of conflict interactions in society. On the basis of A. Maslow’s theory of human needs, where the need for “affiliation and love” is the third fundamental need of human existence, a causal relationship is found of the complexity of resolving severe protracted conflicts. The influence of globalization on the change in the internal content of the conflict in the XX and XXI centuries is demonstrated. The author analyzes the possibility of developing ideas of tolerance, mutual understanding and respect in the context of contemporary cultural diversity, developing the ideas of relativism on the one hand, and the polarization of various cultures on the other, as a response to mainstream globalist trends. The article provides an overview of the main conflict management technologies that contribute to non-violent settlement. One of the technologies that is discussed in more detail in the article is mediation.
